Convict Appeals 55-Year Prison Sentence

Unfucking believable. This is part of the reason why I haven't posted anything lately. I'm tired of getting pissed off and emotional over shit I care about, only to know that NOTHING will change in the near future, if at all ever.

Weldon Angelos heard his fate almost a year ago. His family couldn't believe the sentence. Even the judge regretted handing it down, and the people said the system is flawed.

[...]

In this case, 55 years for selling marijuana three times to a police informant while carrying a gun. The judge grundgingly gave the mandatory minimum, calling his own sentence cruel, unjust, and even irrational. It's a tougher penalty than many receive for sexual abuse and manslaughter convictions.

  • Unfuckingbelievable doesn't begin to express it. Frankly, I don't see how someone who supports the War on Drugs could support this BS. Maybe if the LP stopped worrying about ending the "War on Drugs" and started with something like marijuana, which a good number of people already accept, we could at least make progress. It's not the ideological answer, but it's a start.

  • I don't think calling for an "End to the WoD" is nearly as taboo as it used to be. But what hasn't changed is the need to immediately follow up such an opinion with solid alternatives to the WoD. The LP can learn a thing or two from the DPA, MPP, etc. These are groups that are selling WORKABLE ideas that are conducive to a freer society. A results oriented agenda, rather than taking a strictly laissez faire approach to everything. But even these groups have had limited success.

As much as I'd like to think about where we'd be today had the LP taken a different tack, it bothers me all the more that people in general don't seem to care about our freedoms anymore, especially when it comes to the freedoms of others.
